For a long time, I told myself I didn’t have time.
I was working. I was tired. Life felt full.
And every version of “self-care” online looked expensive, unrealistic, or time-consuming.
So I convinced myself I’d focus on myself later.
But the truth is I wasn’t lacking time.
I was rushing through it.
What Changed Everything for Me
As a working woman, my days aren’t flexible.
I don’t have slow mornings or endless evenings by accident.
I made time.
I stopped rushing because I realised how much it was costing me mentally. Waking up a little earlier changed everything, not to be productive, but to move through my morning in peace.
Now I give myself time to:
-get ready without rushing
-sit down and eat my breakfast
-enjoy my morning coffee
-start the day grounded instead of reactive
It wasn’t about adding more to my day.
It was about removing the chaos.
Self-Care Isn’t Aesthetic, It’s Intentional
Real self-care, for me, isn’t about routines that look good online.
It’s about:
-not carrying everything in my head
-having space to think
-feeling prepared instead of behind
-starting my day calm instead of flustered
It doesn’t cost money.
It doesn’t need an hour.
It needs intention.
As a working woman, my days are structured.
I don’t have unlimited flexibility which is exactly why I rely on systems.
When everything lives in your mind, you feel overwhelmed.
When you write things down, your nervous system relaxes.
Having a simple place to:
-plan my day
-organise my thoughts
-reset when life feels noisy
has been one of the most supportive forms of self-care in my life.
A system doesn’t take time away, it gives it back.
“I’ll focus on myself when life slows down.”
But life doesn’t slow down.
You just learn how to move through it better.
The women who feel the most grounded aren’t the ones with the most free time they’re the ones who protect small pockets of it consistently.
Even 10 minutes matters.
Growth isn’t dramatic.
It’s quiet.
It looks like:
-choosing peace over rushing
-planning instead of panicking
-checking in with yourself
-building habits that actually fit your life
That’s how self-care becomes sustainable.
Final Thoughts
You don’t need to overhaul your life.
You don’t need expensive routines.
You don’t need more hours in the day.
You need to choose how you start it and support yourself with systems that make life feel lighter.
That’s real self-care.
